About The Trading Post
We currently assist an average of 250 households (over 800 people) per month with food, and countless others with additional clothing and household needs. We serve clients of all ages, including many children through our “Giving Tree,” providing infant supplies, backpacks, coats and Christmas gifts and many elderly, who rely on our weekly Soup Kitchen Community Meals and our twice a month Food Pantry as a staple for survival. We serve many more (without income restriction) through our “Feeding America” Distribution three times a week (items donated through Wal-Mart, Tops, Panera) and our “Trading Post” clothing closet/thrift store (open 4 days/week).
We know very well that hunger can have many faces. According to FeedMore WNY, 1 in 8 people in WNY is at risk of hunger or food insecure and 1 in 5 children in WNY is food insecure. Food insecurity means not having consistent access to enough nutritious food to lead a healthy life. The majority of our clients are women and children. Our safety net services offer these children, and their families, greater security. This helps to ensure that there is healthy, nutritious food available throughout the month. Our programs assist low-income and vulnerable families and elderly to stretch their food budgets and meet their household’s most basic needs.
