Immediate Needs

1. Support Eight Days of Hope emergency relief for Hurricane Ida

They are looking for people to go to Louisiana to volunteer in the clean up efforts. John Boller is leading a team to Louisiana to aid EDOH in the hurricane relief from October 13-20. If you'd like to go, you are responsible for paying for your own airfare. Pack toiletries, clothes, and a sleeping bag. EDOH will provide all lodging and food. Watermark is providing transport on the ground in LA.

We are also collecting basic VISA gift cards, as well as gift cards for gas, Target, and Walmart. Drop them off in the box at the Outreach tables at the ministry fair on Sept. 19 or in the main office during September.

2. Afghan Refugee Resettlement Help: Two ways to help

A. Jericho Road is looking for help from nurses, doctors, and other health care workers to facilitate the proper assessments on Saturdays in September and October. If you are willing to volunteer your time with Jericho Road, please email Allison Carr and she will pass your information along.

B. Also, we are collecting donations for the refugees as they await processing and housing. Donations can be delivered to the designated tables in each campus lobby on Sundays during September and October. You can also bring items to the central office at McKinley during the week. Donation needs include (new items ONLY):

  • Body bar soap or body wash
  • Toothpaste
  • Toothbrushes
  • Shampoo/Conditioner
  • Lotion
  • Hand sanitizers
  • Deodorant (for men and women)
  • Sanitary napkins for women
  • Bath towels
  • Wash cloths/body sponges
  • Laundry detergents and baskets
  • Twin bedding
  • Razors
  • Gift cards

You can learn more about the plans to aid in Afghan resettlement here. It's important to note that these refugees will be coming in under different visas and therefore will not be eligible for many services and supports typically accorded to refugees. Five area agencies, including Jericho Road, are working together to coordinate their arrival and get them the goods and services they need.
